Why we need King George Hospital
Unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats have come up with plans to close A&E and maternity servics at King George Hospital.
The Save King George Hospital Campaign believes these plans are bad for residents, bad for health care and badly flawed.
We believe these plans should be rejected because:
- The closures were rejected by two-to-one in the public consultation on Health for North East London's plans for reorganising health care in east London.
- The closure of maternity services has been rejected by specialist colleges representing health professionals working in this field.
- The plans make unrealistic assumptions and predictions about productivity and efficiency gains in the health service.
- The proposals do not fully consider the current and future financial position of the NHS and increases in the local population.
- The proposals do not meet the four tests set out by the Secretary of State for Health as they:
- do not have the support of local residents
- do not have the support of local patients
- do not have the support of local councils
- do not have the support of local MPs.
If allowed to go ahead, the effect of the proposals to close A&E and maternity services wil be:
- more patients having to use the over-worked A&E units at Whipps Cross Hospital and Queens Hospital
- longer waiting times for treatment
- more queues
- longer ambulance journeys
- longer journeys for people living in Redbridge
- more frustrations and, possibly, more deaths.
If you think it is wrong that unelected NHS bureaucrats can ignore residents' wishes and continue with their plans for King George Hospital even though they will not work and cause, at best, inconvenience to people needing hospital care, and, at worst, a significant decrease in the quality of health care available in east and north-east London, please support our campaign.
